Professional Photographers of SW Ohio Annual Picnic

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

Each month I get together for dinner and more training in the art of portrait photography. This month is when we have a picnic instead of the regular meeting with a speaker/seminar leader. The location for the picnic was at Charles and Carolyn Woods home in Franklin. Their back yard provided much inspiration for me as I consider the development of my country barn studio for indoor and outdoor portraits. You will see a wagon, a swing, and several other photo areas that were inviting us to be creative.

Photographers were invited to bring their families before the food was brought out to have portraits made. As photographers we do spend much of our time behind the camera and this was an opportunity for us to have portraits made. It was a great time sharing various ideas and lighting techniques and making portraits for each other.

I am delighted to be involved with a great group of professionals who seek to know each other and share their knowledge freely. If you are a photographer in the SW Ohio I would encourage you to join this group and start to attend the monthly dinner/seminars. We meet monthly at Bullwinkle’s Restaurant at the Middletown exit off I-75.

PPSO Professional Photographers of SW Ohio is an affiliate of PPO Professional Photographers of Ohio of which I am also a member.

An adorable little helper

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

At Sarah Wheelers senior portrait session her little sister helped out by standing behind me, rattling things, swishing leaves, and just jumping about to get the attention of the horse. In equine photography we call this “ear up”. If you take a portrait with a horse and the ears are not up many times the horse appears rather like a mule. Or the horse seems annoyed or bored and this is not what we want when capturing that special connection between a horse and his human.

So Sarah’s little sis helped out and I just thought she was so cute I had to take some portraits of her too. Also the galleries for this portrait session are up: Sarah’s Senior Portrait Session Gallery

Dressage Show at Greenstone Stables

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

What a great day for a show. The weather was warm, but the humidity was lower than on Friday and there was a nice breeze. Not only that, but Greenstone’s dressage arena is surrounded by treas making it very comfortable for all the observers. If there is something that other stables would take from this it is plant some shade trees. It was just great.

I didn’t get there right at the very start so I may have missed a rider or two, but most riders were doing more than one test. Hopefully everyone is represented in the pictures on my proofing site Peter DeMott~Photography to Remember. Click on PROOFS, then Shows, then Greenstone Dressage 6/20/09. That should get you there.

Here are some portraits and action shots to wet your whistle:

Missionary Portraits

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

Yesterday I was able to create some portraits of a missionary family in our church. They had recently had another child and the church needed update images to share about them in church on this Sunday and for our missionary wall. I would have liked to meet at a park and spend some more time, but the portraits needed to be available by today so that the multi-media folks can put it into the presentation for Sunday. In addition it was cold, rainy, and chilling on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday so it would not have been fun for anyone. We met at the church and I used two off camera flashes to capture these family portraits. They leave for the mission field next week. It was a short session and the two girls were just too cute. As we all started packing up the two girls started softening up and talking to me, but alas, the baby was hungry and crying so we needed to finish up.

Pray for Jon and Feona and their family as they head back over seas next week.

Katie and family

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

On the Saturday before Easter I was able to shoot a lovely family at Cox Arboretum here in the Dayton area. It was actually two families and a grandmother that has been trying to get them together for a long time. The foliage was not on the trees yet so the sun was rather intense and was a bit of a frustration.

One thing that I love to do is to find opportunities to captures kid’s protraits when they are more relaxed. One of the younger boys was watching the ducks and his older brother was watching him. He was rather intense in his excitement about the ducks and this put a rather perfect smile on his older brother.

Bonds of Love: Child Portraits to Cherish

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

Children are so fun to shoot and capturing those precious moments when you can see a natural emotional interaction can be fleeting. Not only that, but children grow up so darn fast. For a shoot like this I shoot lots of images.  When I do a shoot with a child or children, I want to capture natural interactions. Many times it takes a little while to get past those “smile and say cheese” unnatural looks. That’s when I find the most precious images.

I asked Heather to meet me at the beach with her daughter and bring some fun things to do. Just let me do my thing while you two enjoy some moments together. It was windy, but it was clearly a special time. These were Heather’s first portraits of her daughter since she was an adopted child. Their bond was growing each day and this was another opportunity for them to express their growing bonds of love. It was a great privilege that I was invited and able to capture such special moments.

Peter took some photos of my newly adoptive daughter and myself at the beach. Being a single mom, we had no photos of us together. These photos capture our newly formed bond. We had fun having the photos taken and I think it is reflected in the work. Peter did a great job and was a joy to work with. I will cherish these photos forever. Heather Wolff —Cincinnati
