Trails End Barn Door Mini Sessions

Saturday, July 11th, 2009

This morning I went over to Trails End for the Hunter/Jumper show (DLSC). I decided to offer some free mini-sessions in the barn door of their newest barn. I was able to shut the doors at the other end of the barn and turn off the lights so that with my subject standing in the doorway the background would go very dark. My lovely subjects stand out from the dark background in a very dramatic way.

Unfortunately, after having only three sessions, the clouds opened up and with a few cracks of lightning there came heavy downpours of rain. If you were at the show hoping for a mini session, perhaps next time. But, just so you understand, I don’t offer free sessions any time. I wanted to create some portraits this weekend and this became a good opportunity. However, if you have a couple of friends and want to break up a regular custom farm call session into several shorter mini sessions, that is a great way to reduce the initial farm call session fee.

As I was at the show, I saw one of my senior portrait session subjects. Corrie was incognito and it took several looks before I realize who she was. She had changed the color of her hair since we created her portraits. Shortly after her mom came up and expressed how happy she was with the canvas print that I had recently sent to them. I definitely have to have more samples of the canvas portraits. They are works of art.

When it was clear that the rain, rain, go away, come again another day was not going to work, I headed home to process these images. If you would like to see the others, go to my proofing area here. Go to Horseshows “Trails End Barn Doors 7/11/09″ While you are there don’t forget to check out other shows that you might have images for. Whenever I add another show, I drop off the oldest show so don’t wait too long to make your orders.

Dressage Show at Greenstone Stables

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

What a great day for a show. The weather was warm, but the humidity was lower than on Friday and there was a nice breeze. Not only that, but Greenstone’s dressage arena is surrounded by treas making it very comfortable for all the observers. If there is something that other stables would take from this it is plant some shade trees. It was just great.

I didn’t get there right at the very start so I may have missed a rider or two, but most riders were doing more than one test. Hopefully everyone is represented in the pictures on my proofing site Peter DeMott~Photography to Remember. Click on PROOFS, then Shows, then Greenstone Dressage 6/20/09. That should get you there.

Here are some portraits and action shots to wet your whistle:

Greater Dayton Horse Trials at Twin Towers

Sunday, May 17th, 2009

That was great fun. I spent a good part of Saturday May 17th at the Greater Dayton Horse Trials at Twin Towers Equestrian Park near Dayton shooting stadium jumping and lots of candids. Saw my good friend Shanon Loomis competing with her morgan.

I know Shanon mostly because of her participation in Endurance Riding. I have an Endurance News cover with her kids crossing a river and there was an article about her daughter as a junior rider last year in the same publication.

Also got to meet Suzanne Fisher of Suzanne Fischer Photography. She and her crew were the official photographers for the event. I checked out her proofing trailer which was pretty cool and we chatted some between riders. It took me a while to make the connection, but her company used to be called Blind Eye Photography and that is how I know her. I always have such a time when people change categories on me.

If you are looking to purchase photos from the show you should go to her web site: Suzanne Fischer Photography

Nice little proofing trailer, but packed out with three viewing stations and room for an uploading station as well. I was impressed once I went inside.

If the wind had been there which I experienced at Twin Towers Equestrian Park the week before at the Stillwater Pony Club Hunter Jumper Show, the tents would have been blown down this weekend, but the wind was not so bad this weekend. It was very overcast and it did rain, but not enough to bother any of the fun and excitment that people were having here. Here are some highlight photos:

What a flashy steed! Great form, good rider.

I grabbed this shot of a young lady after her ride. Did you have a good ride? “It was a GREAT ride!” was her answer.

Stillwater Pony Club May 9th Hunter/Jumper show

Friday, May 15th, 2009

It was a very overcast and extremely windy day at the Twin Towers Equestrian Park out past Fairborn, Ohio. Everyone said that it is always windy there, but this day the jumps kept blowing over and Ann had to have someone go to Walmart to get sandbags. I was amazed that the registration tent and the refreshments tent didn’t up and blow away completely. Most of the horses were getting their nice shiny summer coats.

Although there were clouds the sun poked through frequently and I ended up with a pretty bad sunburn on my face. I had sunscreen in the truck, but didn’t use any.

Everyone had a great time.

I have plenty of candids and portraits from the warm up area along with the actual competition. The little kids were adorable. Pictures will be available for purchase for a month or two, prices go up to my regular rates in a week from tomorrow so if you want to save 20% you better get your orders in. With as nice as many of the pictures are, I a perplexed as to why more purchases have not been made yet. I can only guess that people are not seeing the pictures, SO PLEASE send this link to the folks you know in that group and that show. Of course I can only give up days like that for shows that want me there.

Here are a couple shots to perk your interest:

It was great getting to know some of you a little better. One family asked if I do senior portraits, you know with horses? Yes, I do. And when the grass is green and the trees have leaves is a great time to be scheduling those. But, it does not have to be just for seniors. I was just called for a co-ed graduating from college that wants a graduation portrait session with her horse and I love shooting kids on horses, but I am not limited to horse or horse with people portrait art. If you look through my blog, you will see families and children sessions as well.

So, I hope you’ll vote to have me back by making sure that everyone sees the photos and placing your orders soon. My 20% discount is my way to make sure you look soon before the distraction of other activities. Hope you all enjoy them.

P.S. I did rush to get the images up onto the site. I noticed that toward the end there are a couple small sections of photos that are too bright. I have been too busy to work on those this week, so if any of those are a pictures of you, please email me with the image numbers under the photos you have an interest in and I will adjust them correctly before you place your order. Alas, there are only so many hours in the day.

Also, if you are on FACE BOOK, I’d love to have you as a friend and you will be able to tag your photos for your friends to see (I always put up a couple photos from each portrait session and show). Here is my profile page: Peter DeMott

Here’s why I’ve added a blog to my web site

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

I plan to use this blog to keep you up to date on what I’m shooting.

I may post examples from a senior portrait or farm call. I may post some portraits from a horse show or candid images like the one below. I want to show you things that will inspire you and make you want to come back for more. I hope you will see portraits that make you want to have your own. Photography has a way of freezing time, capturing special moments that we can recapture when we look at the picture or portrait again.

My goal this year is the photograph as many of the Dayton Local Show Circuit (DLSC) shows as will fit into my schedule. I will be shooting endurance rides and competitive trail rides that my wife participates in as well.

I shoot portraits for children, families, seniors, local horse shows, and regional endurance and competitive trail rides.

As a professional photographer, it is my hope that when you see these images you will follow the links to see yourself and your friends.

This is a pictures of Corrie Storer after a DLSC horse show. You can see that she really loves her horse. Actually she spends every spare minute with this guy and hopes to take him with her to college. I hope that she can.
